Anna Orlowska`s photographs make us enter a cinematographic world. The prominent narrative dimension is fuelled by dramatic tension. The nocturnal scenes, all built around female figure, contrast with the image commonly associated with 'pretty' young women: in addition, the female here is pregnant. The tension is further built up by the artist, who prefers darkness. What is this iconic figure feeling, she who seems locked in her own loneliness? Fear? Longing? The title of the series The day before implies that the change is about to happen. But Orlowska does not reveal to us what will follow. Only the viewer`s imagination can help fill the void. It is up to us to imagine the beginning and end of the scenario.
